THE JAM NIGHT JUKEBOX

The Jam Night Jukebox

Featuring members of Free Dirt, Sunday Beer, Garland Buckeye and numerous independent contributors

This site is dedicated to all those who love jamming -- playing and listening to live music. We all enjoy listening to music as much as playing music and we hope you do too.

Sharing music is one of the staples of life and we would love to get feedback just like having you in the jam room with us, if only virtually.

Also feel free to spread the word. For now, we don't even mind if you download and rip your own CDs of our jam nights so you can take us with you. However, all original material is strictly copyrighted.

Update 11/06/2008:
This is a big moment for the Jam Night Jukebox. We're jumping into the video arena. We're all in trouble now. This is a video of the show we did last week at C.P.R. in Lexington Kentucky, U.S.A.

Jam Night 12022008 We didn't jam last Tuesday night since Scotty was a no show so we took the opportunity to do a little more mixing of the current project. I'm uploading some of the more recent mixes to the members' download section and realized the last update I had done was way back at the end of November. Well lucky for you, we did jam two weeks ago and so here it is, at long last. It was a pretty typical jam night and we finished up with a bluegrass version of Angel Band and just to keep things interesting, a sort of bluegrass version of Killing Floor.

Make sure you check out the great stuff we're doing on the current project in the members' area. You can download just about all eight tracks and they are all very close to being done. Let us know what you think too. We love to get feedback from the masses. Until next week, Jam On! -- DJ
Jam Night 11252008 This weeks jam night was bit crowded with a couple unexpected guests. But they were aspiring musican looking for guidance and we just couldn't turn them away. They were actually big fans of Scotty's who decided they had to see the legend first hand, and that they did. I think it was very encouraging for them. Anyway we played a good (long) jam night. I'm sure they are inspired.

I've also been working on a new feature for the Jam Night Jukebox. It allows you to select jam nights from a calendar showing each jam night by month and year. As you can see from the length of this page, we have a lot of jam night in the archive. Hopefully this will be a better way of accessing them than simply a long list. Let me know what you think (Jam Night-O-Rama). It is currently in testing mode and I'd love to get any feedback.

Jam Night 11182008 This weeks jam night was a pretty typical representation of the Scotty and The Galley Nippers line up. A little country, western, folk, rock, jam thing. Meanwhile, on Thursday nights the Garland Buckeye crew is busy working on our second recording project (I promise I'll have the first available just as soon as we have cover graphics). You can check out just about all of the rough final mixes on the members download page. We've also got nifty little addition to the Jam Night Jukebox I'll tell you more about it part two of this double post. Jam On! -- DJ
Jam Night 11112008 Seems like forever since the last post but it's only been about two weeks and if you haven't noticed by now I've been busy putting up videos of the big show we played last month. It also took us a while to get all the equipment back to the jam room. Anyway, hope you've checked out all the vids on YouTube (search for Garland Buckeye). We've also actually gotten back to a little mixing on the Brad project and you can check out a pretty good version of Cop An Angle on the member's download page.

Enough administrative stuff! This weeks Jam Night features the sultry sounds and the return of Free Dirt. Bass and Guitar duets are a favorite of everyone, aren't they? We feature some harp and free-form whistling as well. We were feeling liberated after the election last week and decided it was an appropriate and welcome diversion from the "usual stuff" we have on Tuesday nights. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did (if that's possible). Jam Your Brains Out -- DJ
Jam Night 10282008 Well, as previously mentioned, we managed to get one last practice in and none too soon. The big show was the next day and as it turned out we all showed up for Tuesday night and nobody else did. So it was a definite omen telling us we needed more practice. This is about as close as you are going to get to being there, unless you were there. Yes, I'm actually posting this a few days after we played the big gig and I gotta tell ya, it turned out to be a really good show. Whiting Tennis is a great guy and writes some incredible songs. Not to mention he's tall enough to clean your ceilings without a ladder. One other bonus was that we have video of the event and we intend to have it up here on the Jam Night Jukebox just as soon as I can figure out how. So stay tuned and get ready for a new trivia question. It's the least you can do to be able to check out our show from the comfort of your desk chair.

And while I'm at it, let me just put in my two cents worth of political commentary. Everybody needs to get out and vote. I don't care who you vote for, just get out there and do it. Don't pay attention to any polls, don't listen to your friends, don't listen to the pundits. Vote for what you think is best for America, not just yourself. Politicians working to make themselves and the rich richer at the expense of average working class men and women are how we got where we are now. There, I guess you know who I'm voting for. Rock (the vote) On -- DJ
Jam Night 10232008 Here's another special Thursday night Jam Night. We thought this would be our last chance to practice for the upcoming live show but as it turns out we managed to slip one more in. So here's the line up for the show. We try our best to play them all the way through without the usual long winded breaks for this, that and the other. We are learning to hold off and just do this, that and the other all at once. Lucky for you, you just get the solid gold from Jam Night and are spared most of this and that. Though If you listen close, you can sometimes hear the other. Jam like a rock star, or better. -- DJ
Jam Night 10212008 Regular "Grand Ol' Opry" type night. Did The Beatles ever play The Opry? Anyway, kicked out everything from The Beatles to Cash to The Luven Brothers to Flat and Scruggs to Devo. OK, not Devo. Just the usual mix here at the Jam Night Jukebox. If you're in the area, don't forget to check out our big show at C.P.R. in Lexington Kentucky, October 29th, 6:00PM ET. For those of you who can't make it, we may have a taste of the show (or maybe all of it) here in the near future. Just so you'll know what you missed. Keep on Jamming. --DJ
Jam Night 10162008 With the big show coming up, we've had twice as many Jam Nights for me to post. Unfortunately, I usually have enough trouble with the one a week. So this is a MEGA-POST!!! Here are four new Jam Nights all rolled into one. I'll just let them speak for themselves. Two of them are the usual Tuesday night sessions and the other two are the "bonus" sessions where we are actually practicing for the big show. Not that we don't hope everything sounds good, but we aren't used to actually practicing. We usually just "whip it out" and stay real casual about it. But we're all shaking off the rust for this show and hopefully, you can hear the difference from week to week. Hope you make it out to the show October 29th at C.P.R (behind Al's Bar) in Lexington Kentucky. Garland Buckeye will be performing with Whiting Tennis. Should be a great show. Until next time, keep on jamming. -- DJ

Jam Night 10022008 Welcome to another special bonus Thursday night Jam Night Jukebox. You might be saying, "what's up with that?"

Well, we're actually getting ready for a real live show, out in public, in front of people, we hope. It is going to be Wednesday, October 29th in Lexington Kentucky at C.P.R next to Al's Bar on 6th and Limestone. This will be the first time we've played a live show since a couple years ago when we did three songs at a Bowie tribute. Best of all, we'll be playing along with Whiting Tennis (check out his myspace page). If you haven't heard of Whiting, you owe it to yourself and your friends to check it out (and us too).

Anyway, here are a bunch of songs we're practicing for the upcoming show. No drummer tonight but hopefully he'll show up for the show (you know how drummers are). Enjoy and see you at the show -- DJ.
Jam Night 09302008 Welcome to another edition of the Jam Night Jukebox. We kicked this one off with a great little ditty and an oopsy which means we only got the last little bit of it. But I think we got enough for you to know it was a good one. We moved into an old Stones tunes from there and yet another oopsy. Not sure, but it might have something to do with the quantities of beer consumed prior to actually playing, I honestly don't remember.

Anyhow, we didn't let that discourage us and we kicked out a bunch more after that with no more oopsies (recording-wise that is). Turned out to be quite a kicked back beer drinking kinda session. We even put up the chain link for the last song. Yes, it's that time of year again, Halloween is just around the corner and we pulled out one of our favorites we've been waiting all year for, special bonus sound effect included. Enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 09252008 As promised, here's a special Thursday night edition of the Jam Night Jukebox. And as mentioned these are a bunch of the songs we've recently been recording and are planning on playing at a rare upcoming live event along with Whiting Tennis. If you don't know who Whiting is, you should google him. Or just come on down to the show (more details to follow) and meet him and us live and in person. So kick back and listen to get a feel for what we'll be playing. As much as we hate practicing (as opposed to just jamming), we are professionals (in our own minds) and we plan on having a great show. Until next time (Tuesday), Jam On. -- DJ
Jam Night 09232008 Tonight's Jam Night was cut short because of some final remixing of the final mix we did last Friday of the special tune we recorded with a local artist for some kind of artsy music and poetry thingy. Whatever you want to call it, it was a fun diversion and you can check it out in the members area. None the less, we managed to get in a few little ditties and had the added bonus of Adam joining in with The Gallinippers for a rare Tuesday night appearance. Other than not giving Scotty the lead mic for his song it was a good little set kicked off with a real jamming version of one of my favorite Jam Night songs, Commotion (CCR).

We're also getting set for an actual live appearance here in Lexington, KY along with Whiting Tennis. So Thursday should be a rare "Jam Night" session in which we will be getting ready for the show and actually practicing some of the songs we've been recording for the past nine months (and a few from the catalog). If you're in the area, be sure to check it out and let us know you're a Jam Night Jukebox follower. We'll see you there. -- DJ
Jam Night 09162008 Tonight's Jam Night kicked off with a truckin' version of Truck Driving Man. Then we managed to talk our lead singer into doing Sunshine Superman. Another big night for Scotty And The Gallinippers and we ended up with yet another 45 minutes of pure jam jam jamming. Keep the requests coming and we'll try to keep up. Or just let us know what you think of the jams or the Jam Night Jukebox in general. We always like hearing from fans of the Jam Night Jukebox. Jam on. -- DJ
Jam Night 09092008 We went hog wild tonight and managed to get over 45 minutes of just beautiful jamming on "tape". We should have known it was an unusual evening when we kicked things off with Hey Joe. Although it is probably one of the more jammed on songs of all time, it isn't usually one we do when there are so many other great Hendrix options. But it got us started and we just kept on cooking. May have had something to do with the fact that we had a spectator present, but I seriously doubt it.

Among the rest of the jams were Memphis Tennessee, Katy Too, I Can Help, The Breeze and many more. So kick back and enjoy this adventurous "full length" jam night jukebox. And don't forget to keep on jamming. -- DJ
Jam Night 09022008 If you've been paying close attention, and I know you have, you're probably wondering if we've been on vacation or what. Well, two weeks ago we had a special get together with a couple visitors from NYC to do some video taping, interviewing and actually laid down an add-on track for the project we've been working on. Anyway, last week we had a visit from Bryan again but this time he stayed and played a little. Too bad we also had quite a few technical difficulties and just managed to catch the very beginning of what turned out to be a great jam on a variation of CSNY's Ohio.

But despite the technical difficulties, we went on to capture a decent 22 minutes of jamming on everything from Gram Parsons to John Lennon. And as I have promised in the past (so many times) I'm posting this just in time for tomorrow's jam night. Rest assured, we'll never stop jamming. Hope you like jamming too. -- DJ
Jam Night 08192008 Last night's jam was almost more like a reunion than anything. We had a special guest appearance, if only briefly, from our friend Brian who lives just down the road from the jukebox. He kicked off jam night with a little solo action you don't want to miss. Mr. Shane showed up as well to provide inspiration and moral support (beer). With Brian providing the spark, we ignited into another great jam night. Well over our stated target of 15 minutes of just beautiful music.

Make sure you check out last weeks jam night too. I just finished posting it a few minutes ago. I know, I'll try to be better. Jam on. -- DJ
Jam Night 08122008 Neglected to get this up in a timely fashion so I'm actually working on a double posting tonight. Last weeks jam night started off with a peppy little tune we've never played before. As I'm listening to it right now, it sound pretty good. We followed that with a sleepy little version of The Doors' "Moonlight Drive". And in the spirit of equal air time for all, Scotty rounded out the kick off trio of songs with a pickin' little mini version of "Set'em Up Joe".

I'd run out the whole set list but I need to get on to posting this weeks jam night before it's next week. Hope you enjoy the double bill. Hopefully this will help the withdrawals I'm sure you've been having. Get out and jam. -- DJ
Jam Night 08052008 We kick it off with a standard blues song written by E. McDaniel (AKA Bo Diddley) called Before You Accuse Me. We got so down and dirty, we had to follow up with a nice little ditty credited simply to Motown but since recorded by many many artist. I think ours was a cross between Creedence and The Temptations. From there we rolled on through several others from some great artist and at least one we've never played before. We even managed to let Scotty into the act (it is his band after all). Most notable was the special verse about the perfect country song. I love the way he says "gittin' drunk".

Hope you enjoy this weeks Jam Night and stay tuned for some upcoming special releases of actual recorded, engineered and mixed music. We love it almost as much as jamming. -- DJ
Jam Night 07292008 We start off this jam night with a song none of us knew very well. But in the usual jam night style, we made it work. Or is that, we worked with what we had, maybe both. Anyway, its the old time classic "Cotton Fields" by none other than Huddie Ledbetter (A.K.A Lead Belly). From that point on we pretty much stayed in the same vein. Among the other songs on the virtual set list were hits like Family Bible, Spider and The Fly, Honkey Tonk Blues and the hits just kept on coming. So despite a late start, we still packed in almost 30 minutes of pure jam-o-rama.

Stay tuned for the official release of project one and a few tasty rough mixes of the new project on the members section. And don't be surprised if something (Hmmmm) in this post is the next trivia question to get into the members section. Jam like you mean it. -- DJ
Alsberg Jammin' SPECIAL EDITION!!!

Mr. Alsberg stopped by for a fix of Jammin'. We've had quite the Summer touring season with the special out of town guests. But Mr. A is living much closer than he used to so he may become a regular guest. After this taste of magic you'll be looking forward to the next visit. We switched around instruments several times, did some of Mr. A's songs and some impromptu improv. We were checking out youtube vids of Captian Beefheart earlier so I think we were all feeling experimental. We were having so much fun we forgot to record half the things we did but what we did get is some great Jam Night Jammin'. There's sure to be some chatter on the Jam Night Forum about this one. Get Out and Jam!! - DJ
Jam Night 07222008 Starting off with a Townes Van Zandt song and some cool vocal effects never hurt and this time was no exception. We kicked right in to a first time cover of Bad Boy. There was some question as to the song's origin and as it turns out it is not the only Larry Williams tune the Beatles, the Stones and the solo John Lennon covered.
We proceeded to rock a bunch of great tunes, as usual, with a surprise guest appearance by none other than Tom Hanks (voice). He didn't have much to say but he was very encouraging. Listen close and you might be able to hear his words of wisdom. We finished up with a pretty laid back version of Suzy Q (written by Dale Hawkins actually) for a grand total of a good albums worth.
We've just about wrapped up "taping" the new project and we are oh so close to having the previous project ready for release. In fact, I've heard a few rogue copies have already made it out into the collective. I'm sure if you google Garland Buckeye or Be Traditional EP you'll find it. But we'll have the offical release available here on The Jam Night Jukebox for all you hard core fans who like the real thing. Jam your brains out. -- DJ
Jam Night 07152008 I think tonight's theme was "that's harder than it looks." We dug through all the archives, both digital and hard copy, and came up with several songs we thought we would give a try. And try is what we did. Sometimes we have to push ourselves just to make sure we don't get too comfortable. Not that tonight was one of those nights. Anyway, as usual, there are some golden moments and some, not so much. But that's what you get here on the Jam Night Jukebox; just what you paid for. No matter what you think, make sure to hop on over to the Jam Night Jukebox Forum and leave your valued commentary.
Jam Night 07072008 Scotty pulls a new one (for us at least) out of his hat to kick this extra bonus jam night off. We eventually caught up to him just in time to end it. This jam night had a lot of interesting endings. Sometimes it harder to stop than it is to start (some times). We kicked out a bunch of jamming tonight so kick back and soak it all in. Them hop on over to the forum and let us know what you think. Look for the newly added Jam Night Jammin' sticky topic in the Music Jammin' section. Go ahead, make my day. Jam On! -- DJ
Jam Night 07012008 Another great jam night from Scotty and the Gallinippers. We even played a request from a live, in studio, guest. Which brings up a good point. We are more than willing to take request. We may not play them, but you're more than welcome to ask. We started out slow (and late) but ended up with another "full length" jam night. So sit back and enjoy. We're on a roll now. Also, for those of you who have checked out and enjoyed the Sunday Beer jam, we've posted a "Best Of" edition of the Sunday Beer jam over on the file download page. We had so many technical difficulties that day so this mp3 cuts straight to all the best tracks and cuts out some of the stuff that was "not so much". Get out and jam, I know we will. -- DJ
Geoff Jam 06262008 A couple weeks ago we were lucky enough to catch the annual Sunday Beer jam session and this week we were truly blessed by the presence of one heck of a bass player - Geoff T. We don't have a name for this line-up but I think something like "The Bassman Cometh" would be good. Anyway, instead of the usual Thursday night recording sessions, we really stepped out and rocked a great jam session for you. Having Geoff rockin' out on the bass allowed me to once again attempt to tickle the ivories and play a little lead singer action. Mostly I just poked around on the keyboard and listened to the guys rock out on a lot of extended solos. I think I could get used to it. Lots of action over at the Jam Night Jukebox Forum so check it out right after you check out this special Thursday night edition of The Jam Night Jukebox. And don't forget to keep on Jammin'. -- DJ
Jam Night 06242008 Best jam night we've had in quite some time; a solid half hour plus a bonus song. We started out with a very traditional song that I bet you've heard but probably not like this. If you listen to the words carefully you might just be surprised as well. We then kicked into another sort of Americana classic but half way through we realized we were missing a page from the song book. So in the usual jam night style, we improvised a quick ending. After all, improvising is just one of the great things about jamming.
So take a listen to this weeks installment and let us know what you think. Don't forget to check out the new Jam Night Jukebox Forum as well. Feel free to leave any comments you may have there if you want to let everybody know what you think. Jam on!!! -- DJ
Jam Night 06172008 Another installment of Scotty and the Gallinippers (I found out how to actually spell it). We were a bit delayed by the great NBA final game (in which the Celtics BLEW OUT the Lakers). But we kicked off with Walk the Line and Scotty does a great Johnny Cash. Then we kicked in to a special bluesy version of a Ray Charles cover. From there it was all icing on the cake. No technical difficulties tonight so we actually have a pretty good set for you this time.
Make sure to check out the Jam Night Jukebox Forum for all the enlightening discussion going on about everything jammin'. Tomorrow is yet another jam night, so check back soon for the next installment. Jam On! -- DJ
Sunday Beer 2008 Ladies and Gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for, the 2008 installment of SUNDAY BEER!!!
Yes, Brother Patrick was in town and the trio known as Sunday Beer laid down some tasty track for your jammin' pleasure. Take a listen and don't forget, Sunday Beer is the band that plays but once a year. Imagine what a little pra%$&#e might do. You never know, one of these years, we might even play twice. Make sure to listen repeatedly until all negative references to the current administration are recognized. Live for jammin!!! -- DJ
Jam Night 06032008 Well, as usual (maybe worse than usual) I am quite late getting this installment posted. So much going on lately but I think we're over the hump. The Jam Night Jukebox Forum is officially open, although still in beta. Be sure to check out the jammin' discussions going on over there.
In this installment, we started out with a smokin' version of Folsom Prison Blues and then we launch right into a reggae version of something hot (I think it was Stay All Night) but due to technical difficulties we only got the intro. Also due to the technical difficulties this is a short installment. But lucky you, we have a special installment I'm getting ready to post right now. And, tomorrow is Jam Night and I promise to have the fresh jammin' up promptly. So check out the official Jam Night Jukebox Forum and stay tuned for some rapid updates. Keep on jammin'. -- DJ
Jam Night 05272008 OK, OK, I know I'm extremely over due with this but I've been trying really hard to get the (in)famous Jam Night Jukebox Forum back up and running. You may have even noticed the site has been down a few times over the last week. But either way, we're getting closer and I am finally putting last weeks Jam Night up just in time to head off to tonights Jam Night. This installment features several classics from way back and a couple new ones (new for us). We're not sure how it happens, but Scotty just keeps popping them out (I'll skip the vulgar simile).
And I've been informed that we aren't giving enough air time to our sponsors so let me just take this opportunity to remind everyone that the Jam Night Jukebox truly appreciates the support of the greatest music store around, Court Street Music (http://www.courtstreetmusic.com).
So it's off to Jam Night. Hope you enjoy this episode and I'll try to have tonight's up before next week. Jam On! -- DJ
Jam Night 05202008 Another great jam night from Scotty and the Galley Nippers. We've been working on the new project as well so make sure to check out some of the samples in the members' area. It's coming along nicely and much faster than the last project (which is actually not quite done done even still). Amazing what a little experience can do for you. And I still say we will have the return of the Jam Night Jukebox Forum any day now. Still working out the technical difficulty but I've been too busy to really hit it. Things should clear up soon so stay tuned. Rock On!!! -- DJ
Jam Night 05132008 Well, I'm doing pretty good this week. I'm actually getting this out within 24hrs of Jam Night. I'm sure that knowledge will help you feel more like you were actually there. And while we're on that subject, we may just have to start including more of the chit-chat (ok, BSing) that goes on. Then again, we try to keep the broadcast interesting (Rrrrreeeeerrrrrrrr!! Budumpba!! OH!!). Let us know what you think. Also, the official return of The Jam Night Jukebox Forum is just a few unresolved glitches away from being ready. So wish me luck. Tonight's jam is just another great little jam session. A few new ones and a few standards in the mix. Full four piece for you're listening pleasure. We're starting to get good at changing the equipment around between recording mode and jam mode. Jam On. -- DJ
Jam Night 05062008 Ok, this time it isn't my fault. Due to technical difficulties, I am just now getting last Tuesday's jam night posted. We were without internet access for the better part of last week. But enough excuses. Here's another jammin' jam night of good old favorites, some covers, some originals. Some never before played. Some standards. All together, we call it another great installment of The Jam Night Jukebox. We're also getting very close to having the long lost Jam Night Jukebox Forum Grand Reopening. So stay tuned and be sure to tune up. -- DJ
Jam Night 04292008 Boy, does time fly when you're really busy. We've been doing so much recording lately that I guess I'm out of the habit of posting the latest jam night at two in the morning. But either way, we actually had an excellent regular old spectacular jam night last Tuesday and I just realized I had never posted it. So better late than never, here's the latest and greatest. One more thing to mention. Look for the return of the official Jam Night Jukebox Forum in the very near future. We know how much you loved it before and with so many imitators out there, we thought it was about time. Keep on Jammin'! --DJ
Same Line You might be wondering (hopefully) what the heck has been going on here at the Jam Night Jukebox for the last couple weeks. Well, in a word, RECORDING. With the first project pretty much wrapped up (and soon to be available here on the JNJ) we have set out on project 2 feeling like old pros. This is going to be eight songs of Brad's this time and once we had the drum tracks down Brad's been raring to go on the rest. So we now have bass and drum tracks (I'm still not happy with my bass tracks, but we'll just call them working versions for now) and as of last Thursday, Brad has laid down some tasty little guitar tracks on a few of the songs. And then of course there are the "scratch" vocal and rhythm guitar he so kindly provided on some of the tracks so the rest of us know where the heck we are. So that's the excuse and we're sticking to it. Not that I don't love the whole creative process, but I'm kinda itch'n for a jam (and I know you are too). So we'll see what happens tomorrow. For now, here's a little taste of the new project. A little tune called Same Line. So far, my top pick. But we're a long way from done and you never know which one will rise to the top. Rock On Jammers! -- DJ
Cop An Angle Well, hope you've missed us as much as we've missed... jamming. Last week you can blame Uncle Sam. Scrambling to do the last minute tax return thing. Boy am I glad that's over. We've also been dedicating the majority of our jam nights to recording the new project. We've got drum track for eight new songs and Tuesday night we worked on bass tracks. Thursday we will probably do a few more bass tracks, but I have a feeling (ok, I'm hoping) we will do a bit of good old jamming as well. It really all depends on who shows up for jam night. And at least as far as the musicians go, that's very hard to predict. Here's a taste of one of the project songs with bass and drum tracks along with a "scratch" vocal and acoustic guitar track. Let us know what you think. Long live the Jam Night Jukebox. -- DJ
Jam Night 04032008 Tonight marks the official beginning of project number 2. We spent some time revising our layout for the drum mics and we think we're on to something. Hopefully we will get better isolation of the individual drums/cymbals with this new layout. Before we started recording though, we did a warm-up song which was another tribute to Bill Keithley. If anyone deserves a second tribute, it is he. So for tonight's Jukebox we have the tribute/warm-up song plus a sample of the drum tracks we recorded tonight. If you listen very carefully, you can hear the guitar in the background. I'll let you guess which song it is. You've heard it a few times recently on the Jukebox. Ok, it's official, I've finally caught up with these updates. Until tomorrow that is. Hope your having as much fun with your taxes as I am. Thank god for the jukebox. Makes great background music for doing taxes (or anything else you might be doing). -- DJ
Jam Night 04012008 Rock trio tonight. Started with some Beatles. One of them was our tribute to Bill Keithley who was a long time member of the UK Wildcats staff. If you watched a UK Wildcats game in the last 60 years you most likely would have seen him there on the sidelines. Won't be the same without him. Anyway, we played several of the upcoming project songs to get ready for recording and threw in a few others just for fun. Once again, I'm delinquent, but that's life. Enjoy.
Jam Night 03252008 After getting last Thursday's Jam Night up on the site I realized I hadn't put up last Tuesday's Jam Night. I can't believe none of the loyal listeners didn't send me an e-mail and let me know (or at least complain). So without further adu, here is last Tuesday's Jam Night. Good little rock country "get the hat" session with a bit of improv thrown in for good measure. Make sure you listen for the official Jam Night noise so you will be able to answer the new members' area trivia question.
Jam Night 03272008 You might call this a practice night. But we don't like to use the P-word much so we'll just call it another great Jam Night. Had the gang of four in attendance and played a few of the upcoming project songs and some other bonus songs. I'm only getting this out to the web now (Monday morning) because I spent the weekend doing the final (hopefully) touches on the first project mix down/post production. Should have a sample out on the members area any day now. The entire project will be available just as soon as we have some liner notes and graphics put together, maybe sometime next Christmas :-)_
Jam Night 03202008 Started with a favorite Jimi jam version of Killing Floor then we played a few more of the upcoming project songs along with a few tasty covers. All in all a good little Free Dirt jam. But Free Dirt jams are always a jam so what else do you want. Should have a taste of the nearly ready for release first project on the members section soon. And listen for the new Jam Night Jukebox Sound on a future Jam Night installment. It will be the answer to the members section trivia question soon. Jam on!!!
Jam Night 03182008 Just another great jam night. We had the power trio but weren't ready to start working on the new project just yet. So we just rocked the house on quite a few of the new songs which will be on the next project. We may have actually finished up the mixing of the last project last Thursday (thus, no Thursday night jam night). Now it's just a few finishing touches and we're ready for world wide release. Remember where your heard it first. This Thursday is the start of the big tourney so we may have to put off the new project a little further. Hope your favorite team rocks (unless they go up against mine, or any of my picks). Rock on. --DJ
Jam Night 03112008 Another country style three piece guitar jam night. Couple new songs. Scotty showed up late but we hadn't managed to play anything before he came so it might be a good thing he showed at all. It's almost 2:00 AM Thursday and we've just finished up (hopefully) the mixing for the project. But I felt I had to get Tuesday's jam night out to you or I'd be violating my own rules. Hope to have the new project available for you all soon. More changes at the Jam Night Jukebox to come soon as well. So keep your eyes open.
Alsberg Jam 03082008 As promised, here is the special bonus Jam Night with our special bonus Jam Night guest Jeff Alsberg. He does a lot of his own recording and mixing but it's a whole different thing when you bring it to the Jukebox. And the Jukebox is a whole different thing when we bring in Jeff. Some rockin' little riff-ditties that we took to the limit for some special moments we're so happy to bring to the Jam Night Jukebox. Too bad we don't have him around more often. We did however decide it was worth a band name. Since this is the Free Dirt duo along with Mr. Alsberg we decided on "10 Tons of Mud". You might consider this our first release. If you check the Jam Night Jukebox archives, you can find some previous 10 Tons of Mud action too. Just more proof that at the Jam Night Jukebox you always get what you paid for and more.
Jam Night 03062008 Since it was Thursday night we decided we would do a quick messin' with the last song from Tuesday's jam night. If you want to hear that, you'll have to become a member. Or actually, you have to answer a rock and roll trivia question. If you're here, you're already a member of the jam night family. The rest of the night was just a bunch of Free Dirt. Some brand new material, a blast from the past (for us) and a bit of practice (ok, I said it) for the next project we hope to start very soon. We were expecting a surprise guest but he was delayed en route. Just means we should be having a bonus jam for you soon. We love visitors to the Jam Night Jukebox. Especially, live, in jam room visitors. Until next time, jam on.
Jam Night 03042008 Crazy jam night. But it always is when Brad gets behind the drums. Not sure which is the cause and which is the effect. We gave a few ones we have had trouble with in the past another shot and I'm pretty sure we at least managed to do better than before. And once Brad moved into the drivers seat we really got rolling. We also played several never before songs and they came off pretty well. After an extra long jam session (at least what we got on "tape") we wrapped up with a new one too. It's one of my favorite Lou Reed songs and I always imagined I would play it on drums. Instead I got to sing it and play bass. Always a challenge but that's why we do it -- NOT! Hope you dig it. -- DJ
Jam Night 02282008 Just the power rock trio tonight. Nothing acoustic but the drums. Some rocking oldies and some of the newer original stuff so to be part of the next project. We really need to get the last one wrapped and released before embarking on a new one but life doesn't always work out the way you planned. Congrats to Adam and Joseline on the new addition. We know you'll be back to wrap the project as soon as you can. This set is actually one I might envision us playing live if that ever happened. So let us know if you liked the show. Sorry I'm so late getting this posted.
Jam Night 02262008 Another great jam night with the full four piece line up. And another night of braving the weather to do it. Despite getting a late start we managed to pull out thirty plus minutes of solid jamming for you too. No matter the weather, no matter the songs, we jam to live and live to jam. And we hope you feel the same. Also, keep your eyes open for some new changes coming to the jukebox in the near future. Jam On! -- DJ
Jam Night 02222008 Special special jam night tonight. Not only did we have a rare Friday night jam (to make up for the missed Thursday night jam) but we had a jam night virgin join us. Cousin Chris joined us for the first time and we were very pleased to say the least. He's a long time rocker even if he is just 22. We were so happy to have a new jammer join us and to be able to make up for the missed jam night that we rocked out a solid hour and twenty minutes for you this time. One of the longer jam nights on record. And despite his youth he really stepped up and not only brought some new material to the jam night jukebox but played lead guitar and sang too. We didn't even have to have a post jam meeting to decide he is now an official jam night jukebox member. We hope to be seeing (and hearing) a lot more from him in the future. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Jam Night 02192008 Extra special four piece country (classics, of course) style jam night tonight. As usual, had a few little issues trying to play new songs but that's the whole point of jam night. We just pick something and give it a shot. If we like it, and it isn't completely horrible, you get to hear it. And we might just add it to our list of regulars if it came off really well. As someone new to actual notes when playing music (used to play drums up until a couple years ago, now playing bass) I find it interesting not to mention convenient when we have a theme running through a lot of the songs. Tonight the theme was G-C-D, or some variation of it. Not sure if you can tell just by listening but even the last song we talked Scotty into playing turned out, completely by chance, to be another G-C-D song. Go figure. That's all until Thursday's jam night. Enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 02142008 Great jam night tonight (IMNSHO). We had the basic three piece so the possibilities were endless. We added a dedicated vocal mic to the mix so you may notice some peaks we weren't used to. We're constantly learning but we're sure a long way from the old boom box recording days. We played some newer original material that will be on an upcoming project, some old original material and some classic covers both old and new. Definitely a rock and roll night of jamming. Hope you like it. -- DJ
Jam Night 02122008 Another country night except we didn't have a drummer. Maybe we should call it bluegrass night instead. Some new tunes we haven't played before and as usual, a little bit of pure jammage. Just keepin' it real. We were a bit bummed about the huge blowout the Cats suffered down in Vande but we managed to have a good time anyway. As always, all feedback is welcome so feel free to send a note to the DJ via the link in the right hand menu. Rock On! -- DJ
Jam Night 02072008 Another Thursday night Free Dirt jam. We're always on the cutting edge as far as the songs we play on the Jukebox. We take it upon ourselves to pull in the new material and give it the once over before trying them out with the rest of the fellas. Always interesting to hear many different songs done by a guitar and bass duo for the first time. But somebody has to do it. Sometimes, we even surprise ourselves. Either way, we have a good time and hope that comes across.
Jam Night 02052008 Another jam night with a drummer. Hope this trend continues. We also had a special surprise visit from Scotty so we mixed it up with some of the best country classics and a few others as well. All the while a storm was raging outside the little jam night hut. We lucked out and didn't lose power and managed to get it all "on record" even though I forgot to bring the MOTU (analog/digital interface). We finally packed it all up and ran for home in between some major thunder storms and tornado warnings. So all in all, it was a good jam night and nobody got hurt.
Jam Night 01312008 Mini free dirt jam after we did a little goofing around with the project recordings.
Jam Night 01292008 Ok, I'll say it right up front, I've been a huge slacker the last two weeks. I've had to do some traveling for my day job and just haven't gotten around to updating the site. But last week we did manage to get a couple jam nights in and now I'm trying to get the site updated before the big game starts. So here you go, a double update. Hope it keeps you happy until the next time I manage to get to this. Rest assured, we will be jamming and sooner or later, it will be on the site. This is Tuesday night's jam and it was a good one. We actually had a drummer and we took advantage of it. Some rockin' versions of some of our favorites and a couple we haven't done before. This is a rock session for sure. Enjoy.
The Way That You're Remembered Spent another night mixing down the new project. We're really cooking now. Managed to finish up (mostly) Emily Kay and the next two songs as well. Two more to go and it's time for the big final mix down party. This selection is the fourth on the project and is one of our favorites (if we are allowed to have a favorite child). The dobro (EBGIII) in particular sounds really great. I've been listening to the four songs over and over again and I'm really quite pleased with the clarity and the dynamics. All four selections are available in the members only section of the Jam Night Jukebox so become a member today. It's really easy. Either way we'd love to hear what you think. So drop us a line sometime.
Jam Night 01152008 Just Free Dirt tonight. We goofed around with the synthesizer a bit more and think we may have some small amount of control over it this week. Got a late start due to the Cats game. But we just listened to the second half down in the jam room while we tried to cypher the synth. Still managed to get a good jam night in by staying up way too late. Such is the dedication to the music. Hope you feel me. Enjoy. -- DJ
Go Away Emily Kay It was back to business tonight. We believe we've solved the extreme low end issue on Easy Easy Easy and you can check it out in the members only section. With that small victory behind us we moved on to song two of the project. This one is called Go Away Emily Kay. I'm told that is the "main point of the song" but like me (and any others on the inside) you may refer to it as simply Emily Kay. We must have learned a lot in the months of remixing the first song because we actually think we've got a close approximation of the final mix for the second song and we only started working on it tonight. But that's the whole point of this "little experiment". So here is the next song from the upcoming B Traditional LP -- Go Away Emily Kay. Hope you like it -- DJ.
Jam Night 01082008 Well, we spent the entire night last Thursday trying to get a final mix for the first song of the first project. We burned several versions down to CD and listened to them on various different stereos and found that we had some very annoying low end noise. So tonight we did a bit more looking into the source of the problem and may have found it. Along with getting a late start tonight it was already quite late before we decided to actually play some music. We couldn't imagine going more than a week without any new material for the Jukebox. So on a whim, we started messing with some wild vocal effects and the synthesizer. The result is this ten minute, multi-track, experimental, improvisational lunatic rant a la The Beatles (can you say Magical Mystery Tour), Zappa, Alice Cooper etc. etc. Definitely not the usual Jam Night by a long shot. But we know how much all you Jam Night Jukeboxers love a good acid trip every once in a while. If you're like me, you'll be listening to this over and over again and hearing something different every time. Never a dull moment at the Jam Night Jukebox.
Jam Night 01012008 HAPPY NEW YEAR from the Jam Night Jukebox. Here is a very special treat. For the first time ever we have a jam night on an actual holiday. Of course, it was only the die hard core jammers; EBG III and me. Seemed like the right way to end the holidays. Not only did we lay down a bunch of live improv jam rock gems but we even solved one of our major technical issues on the project we've been working on. More about that on Thursday's edition of the Jam Night Jukebox. For now, sit back and check out The New Year Edition of The Jam Night Jukebox. -- DJ
Jam Night 12202007 Yet another special holiday edition of the Jam Night Jukebox. Bassist extraordinaire Geoff "Heavy G" T-bow was in town and as always, made for a special night. Since this is the last Jam Night before Christmas we were having fun, drinking some good brews and playing some Christmas tunes, several of the originals as well. Hope you get everything you asked Santa for (assuming you've been good this year). The next edition of The Jam Night Jukebox will be next Thursday, just in time for the new year. Until then, keep on jamming. -- DJ
Jam Night 12182007 Guitar, bass and harmonica; one of my favorite line-ups. We could have used a drummer because Brad was really wanting to rock out. But I think we took care of business either way. A couple songs we've never played before, as well as some Christmas selections to get you in the spirit of the season. We've got one more Jam Night before the big day so stay tuned. You never know what we'll come up with. We may even do a preview of the much anticipated Christmas album we've talked about for quite some time. Never enough original new Christmas songs. Especially jammin' ones. Until Thursday, enjoy. -- DJ
Jam Night 12112007 Well, last Thursday we goofed around with the project a little more and re-recorded a few lead vocal tracks after we discovered our levels were a bit to "aggressive". So nothing to share with you from last Thursday. And as things go, I'm not going to be able to make tonight's Jam Night so I decided I would be remiss if I didn't put up something for you to listen to. I'm pulling this one out of the archives in case you haven't gone back and listened through all of them. Once again it is from just about 1 year ago, so there are some holiday tunes as well. Hope you like it. And when you have a chance it would be well worth your time to check out all of the archives. They may soon be "members only" content. Until Thursday, enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 12042007 Just the die hard jammers tonight. No frills, just some great jamming. We even went way out on a limb with a couple impromtu freeform moments. We even threw in a holiday song or two. And we had a new sponsor as well. We should have the members only section up and running soon so check back and register to access the special content reserved exclusively for friends of the Jam Night Jukebox. The first thing we will have up there will be the remixed and almost complete project we've been working on for what seems like forever. Hope you like it. Enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 11292007 Did a bit more "goofin" on the six song project as well as adding the much anticipated backup vocal. This thing is so close to being done I have decided not to release any more updates to the general public. However, if you are really itching to hear the latest and greatest and just can't wait for the final realease you can check it out in the "members only" section of the Jam Night Jukebox. Only problem is we don't have a members only section of the Jam Night Jukebox yet. I hope to get that up and running soon though and the newest update of the project will be the first members only content. So keep checking back for more details. In the meantime, here's a blast from the past to satisfy your Jam Night craving. This one was just about a year ago and includes some of the original holiday songs you may find on a special Christmas album at some point in the future. Until next week, keep on jammin' -- DJ
Jam Night 11272007 Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. But now it's time to get back to the music. Seems like weeks since the last Jam Night. Hard to believe we used to only do it once a week. I was seriously having withdrawals. Thankfully, we have cleared that up nicely as of last night. Lots of new material of Brad's that will be on upcoming projects and a couple covers thrown in. This is real Jam Night stuff ladies and gentlemen. Pick it, play it, see what happens. No pretences, no boundaries. Just great live Jam Night music. We even picked up a sponsor or two which is yet another reason to be thankful. Hope you enjoy this "fix". With any luck, we'll have something new for you Friday too. --DJ
Jam Night 11202007 Well we won't be having Jam Night thursday so the drummer showed up tonight instead. We did a little tweaking of the six song project which is available on the file list page as JamNight11152007b.mp3. But it was tuesday night and it has been a while since we had the drummer on a tuesday so we had to do some jamming. Several of Brad's upcoming project songs and a few others for good measure. Hope you have a good Thanksgiving and we'll be back in action next week.
Jam Night 11152007 Only got around to adding lead electric guitar and dobro tracks tonight but boy do they sound good. Things are really coming together. So much so that we wondered whether or not to actually put this up on the Jukebox since we wouldn't want to spoil the actual release. But great music needs to be shared and we all agree this is some great music. Did a little tweaking to the levels too so other than some backup vocals and what I'm sure will be hours of post production mixing and tweaking this is very close to being finished. Of course then we move on to one of many other projects we are now very excited to get going on. If this project is any indication, we can't wait to get going. Hope you feel the same way. Enjoy and keep on jamming -- DJ.
Jam Night 11132007 Just our little jazz trio again tonight; guitar, bass and harmonica. If you didn't know by now, we really like the Beatles. So once again tonight we found ourselves thumbing through one of several Beatles song books and picking out some tasty selections of the fab four. Then we previewed some of the selections of Brad's that you will hear on some of the other projects on the list. Throw in a couple Jam Night Jukebox standards and you have just another great jam night. As you listen, don't forget the Jam Night Jukebox mantra. Unplanned, unrehearsed, unscheduled and unashamed. Just a reminder, especially to those who are now regular subscribers to the podcast, we'd love to hear from you so stop by the web site and leave us some feedback. Or just shoot off an e-mail to dj@jamnightjukebox.com. Until next time, keep on jamming -- DJ.
Jam Night 11082007 Made good progress on the project tonight. Put down bass tracks on all six songs plus a revised lead rhythm guitar track on one song and lead vocals for all six songs. Starting to sound like a full fledged album if I say so myself. A pretty good one at that. We are all highly impressed with the sound quality too. Amazing what you can do from the comfort of your home (or someone elses) these days. We'll be adding some lead guitar and backing vocals next time so stay tuned. For now, enjoy this rough mix, semi-complete rendition. DJ
Jam Night 11062007 Back to "normal" at the Jukebox tonight. Two guitars and bass. Lots of the old standards and a couple not so standard. Even a brand new attempt inspired by a YouTube video I saw earlier in the day. Live music jams are what we are all about and that is what you get tonight in spades. Nearly an hour worth. I think it had something to do with the cold weather and not wanting to take a break and step outside. Or maybe we were just inspired by not having a heckler tonight. Either way, hope you like it. Or at least parts of it. Jam on -- DJ.
Jam Night 11012007 Making good progress on the first of several projects. Tonight we recorded drum tracks for all six of the songs on the project and proceeded to add the lead rhythm guitar tracks. Far from being finished, here are the same six songs as last week but these are the actual tracks rather than the quick, live run-through. The mix is a quick and dirty one (so we could share them with you) but you should be able to hear (and appreciate) the vastly superior sound quality. Next week we add bass, quitar lead(s) and vocals if all goes well. Sing along if you like. -- DJ
Jam Night 10302007 Interesting night at the Jam Night Jukebox tonight. We had an unexpected (not to mention uninvited) guest that was a little on the "rough" side. He did manage to do a little drumming, but for the most part he played the part of resident heckler. None the less, it was the "Halloween" edition of the Jam Night Jukebox so somehow it seemed appropriate. Not sure I managed to edit out all of the profane language but then again, nobody said the Jam Night Jukebox was rated G. Listen if you dare and Happy Halloween.
Jam Night 10252007 Really getting into this recording stuff now. In other words, a whole lot more than press the record button and play the song. We've been focusing on getting good drum tracks as the basis for everything else we intend to add. You have to start somewhere and we want the best start we can get. So we managed to lay down the drum tracks for 3 of the songs off the initial project which we had actually started working on way back in the fall of '06 (and which you can listen to way down at the bottom of the page). Of course three drum tracks aren't much to listen to, so we decided to do a simple, quick run through of all six songs that will be on the EP, in order even. It will certainly be interesting to see how this compares to the final product. Enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 10232007 Guitar, bass and harmonica; what else do you need? No stopping the Tuesday night troopers. We really hit the highlights tonight with some tasty selections of some of the best song writers we know. On top of that we kicked out a few impromptu jams. After all, we don't call it the Jam Night Jukebox for nothing. Like my momma used to say, the Jam Night Jukebox is like a box of chocolates; you never know what your going to get. And one more thing, Brad says "excuse me, but there was no avoiding it" regarding his little outburst in the last song. Enjoy, rock on, drop us a line some time -- DJ.
Jam Night 10182007 There was a storm a brewin' but it didn't stop us from getting into a lot more detail on this whole recording thing. We did a little post-production experimentation with the song from last week checking out all the available effects to see if it was actually possible to improve it. We settled on a few vocal and percussion effects that we liked but we also realized we could spend an entire week tweaking just one song. So you'll just have to check out the release to hear the final product. We also did a lot more investigation on exactly how to go about isolating the drums, getting the base (not bass) track, multiple inputs, levels and a bunch of other technical stuff that you just don't think about until you have to. Then we put all this new knowledge to use. So here is our 2nd multi-track recording. Enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 10162007 Still celebrating the big UK win over LSU last Saturday. Hoping for another big win over Florida this Saturday. You might be asking how this applies to the Jam Night Jukebox. Well, the Cats don't make it look easy, sometimes stumble, sometimes fall, but they keep on truckin' and in the end they get the job done. Sounds like the Jam Night Jukebox to me. Smooth little Jam Night tonight. Greased up by a little whiskey. Always interesting to say the least. Hope you enjoyed the multi-track recording last Thursday. We'll be back at it this Thursday. Enjoy -- DJ.
Jam Night 10112007 After talking about it for the last several weeks (ok, months) the stars finally aligned and the MOTU is now back in action. Not that we didn't face some challenges even tonight. But nothing was going to stop us. So now, without further ado, I give you the first in what will be a long series of multi-track recording efforts. This one is really just a test of all the nuts and bolts to see if we can remember how this works. This mixdown uses 7 of the 8 tracks we recorded. The original vocal track being the eighth. Hope you enjoy the crystal clear quality. Look for this song in it's final rendition on one of the upcoming projects. I'm not even sure it has a name yet. -- DJ
Jam Night 10092007 Well, after the disappointing Cats loss last Thursday it felt like we were coming back from the war tonight. But it was quite a homecoming. We had a special guest to round out the bass and two guitar line-up with selected keyboard, harmonica and vocal contributions. I think we were all ready to get back to it and we pumped out over an hour of great live jamming. Lots of classic country favorites. Some old standards of ours and some new. Remember, this is live, unrehearsed, unscripted and more often than not unplanned. Luckily for you, it is not unedited. Now that we are podcasting we'd especially love to hear from any of our new listeners. Drop us a line with any and all comments. Keep on Jamming -- DJ.
Jam Night 10022007 Strange Jam Night tonight. We'll call this one "Overcoming Adversity". The laptop was acting up and so were the musicians. We managed to get a couple tracks before losing one member. Then we managed to get a couple more almost without issue. We won't be jamming Thursday night due to the big SEC matchup between UK and USC (South Carolina). GO CATS!!! Some things (but not many) just demand higher priority than Jam Night. But once again, we will be hitting it next week and hopefully get the first "Return of the MOTU" session going.
Jam Night 09272007 This might have been the kickoff "return of the MOTU" jam except for a slew of last minute technical difficulties. So once again, we took the opportunity to "tune up" on some of the soon to be released project songs. Some really good versions (like we knew what we were doing) which was encouraging. We might just be ready to start the projects next week. So stay tuned and see how and where these selections end up. You can even participate in the process by giving us feedback. Don't be afraid, all suggestions are taken into consideration and we won't spam you even if it's a dumb idea.
Jam Night 09252007 No jam night last Thursday. Call it the perfect storm but we all had a reason we couldn't make it. Doesn't happen often (thankfully). But tonight we came back with an almost packed house. Just missing the drummer. But Scotty (Scooter) was back in the house after a short hiatus and the harmonica player showed up again. So we laid down a pretty solid session for the fall kickoff. Enjoy.
Jam Night 09182007 The rhythm section was on time, but we don't know any songs with just bass and drums. By the time the guitar player showed up we didn't have a whole lot of time but we made the self imposed minimum 15 minutes. One new song and one we've never really played (very well). Throw in a few other jams and we called it a night. Keep an eye out for Thursday's jam session. We may have the MOTU back in action.
Jam Night 09132007 Call this "Preview Night". In preparation for the upcoming recording sessions we take a couple songs, one from each of the primary song writers of the bunch, and multi-track them for your enjoyment. As the pieces fall into place we're slowly getting back into multi-track mode. Next week we hope to resurrect the MOTU and take it to the next level. We have so much time and so little to do, strike that reverse it. Stay tuned and learn how the whole process unfolds right up to the final product(s) which, of course, will be available right here at the Jam Night Jukebox.
Jam Night 09112007 Revenge of the Jam Night!!! No drummer but we had the bonus guitar and harmonica players tonight. A couple cool little impromtu jams, some classics and some "still working on it" songs. All in all we layed down over an hour of great Live Jam Band Music to commemorate breaking the 50 jams this year mark.
Don't forget to try out the new links on each and every Jam Night. I've been listening to some of the first recordings and I can't wait to get the MOTU back up and running. Should be any day now. Tune in, turn up, get down and jam on.
Jam Night 09062007 Well, besides the one that got away (my bad), we had a great practice jam tonight. Had the full band and with the inspiration of Tuesday night's multi-tracking session and news that Adam's better half is pregnant we laid down some great trial runs of many of the upcoming project songs. Pretty energetic if I say so myself. If you like what you hear your going to really want to follow the progress as we work on several actual recording projects in the coming weeks. We will also soon be making a couple previous projects available for purchase to all you dedicated Jam Night Jukebox Junkies. At a special Jam Night Jukebox price, of course. Keep your eyes and ears peeled. We'll rock at you soon.
Free Dirt Ditty 09042007 Well this time, finally, it was just the Free Dirt boys. No late arrivals. So we took the opportunity to continue preparing for the upcoming recording sessions. Even though it is still just the laptop, we did a little multi-tracking on a completely impromtu little guitar duo I've been hoping to do for some time now. After a brief guitar lesson (my first) we just set down the base (not bass) two-guitar track. Then we proceeded to pile on the vocal tracks, percussions, bass, synthesizer and yet more vocals. Let us know what thought this conjures up for you. There are plenty of possibilities.
***Update -- a second mix of this is now available in the mp3 download section. A little more bass and synth. Check it out ***
Jam Night 08302007 Tonight was kind of like the kick off jam. Time to start working on the songs for the long awaited projects (plural). We have finally resolved our technical difficulties and the motu will soon be back in action. Check back often and get a first hand glipse into the whole process. Here's a sampler of songs from a couple of the projects. We'll all get to hear these (and many others) plenty over the coming months. We'll still have the regular Tuesday night free live music jam band adventures. But Thursdays are back to recording night. Viva la Jukebox.
Jam Night 08282007 Once again we thought it was just going to be a duo tonight and once again we had a straggler show up at the last minute. In preparation for our upcoming recording session (more on that in the weeks to come) we were going to run through several of the soon to be released songs. And we did. We were lucky enough to get the harmonica player in on it too. So with a jazz Jam Band consisting of bass, guitar and harmonica we proceeded to lay down some very cool (as in jazzy cool) live music recordings. Hope you like it. Check back for more insights on the whole recording process. This is where it starts, practice.
Jam Night 08232007 Thought we might have to do a little multi-tracking since there were only two of us tonight. But then the drummer showed up at the last minute (just before lockdown). So we got a late start but decided it was time to start working on a few songs we might be looking to record in the near future. Which really gets us back to what the Thursday night Jam Night started out to be. Who knows, you might just see a new record (ok, CD, download) of these songs some time soon. We'll be sure to let you know. Jam on and support live music (especially jam bands).
Jam Night 08212007 We had the full Jam Band line-up tonight. Good thing too since a couple of us (ok, me) were still feeling a little slow from the big party Saturday night. Let me just say that bourbon is not conducive to jamming into the wee hours of the morning. So we stuck with beer tonight and came up with a good live music set for your enjoyment. Even a couple never before played songs to add to the list. And we didn't even have to tack on a free jam at the end to meet the 30 minutes mark. Hope you like it.
Jam Night 08162007 Same Jam Band line-up we had Tuesday night and I had a feeling it was going to be a great Jam. Then I realized I had forgotten the power cord for my laptop (portable recording device). So we milked the battery for all it was worth and actually went dead just before finishing our tribute to Elvis. Hey, that's live music for you. But we did get most of it, and that's more than we thought. Not to mention a bunch of other great live music recording and jams. Enjoy and keep jamming.
Jam Night 08142007 The heat was getting to us tonight, some of us more than others. And since we didn't have any extra players we had to take it easy. We still managed to get 30 minutes of great Jam Band Live Music for your pleasure. And nobody actually passed out (all the way). So all in all, it was a good Jam Night. But any Jam Night is a good Jam Night.
Jam Night 08092007 Nothing better than LIVE MUSIC from a bunch of Jam Band members. And I don't say that lightly (live music, or jam band). But that is what the Jam Night Jukebox is all about. And that's just what you get. Sometimes experimental, often amazing and always entertaining. If you like LIVE MUSIC and Jam Bands, you've come to the right place. Get out and jam on some live music, create your own jam band and listen to the Jam Night Jukebox often. The rest is just icing on the cake.
Jam Night 08072007 Oh what a night. Started out with a (long) Dylan tune. Then it looked like it might be a Hank and Johnny night. Throw in a couple little impromptu jams and you end up with a great little 40 minute jam night. We even played a great one "off the record". We must have been inspired by the heat (to stay inside). Take a listen, then listen again. This is an instant classic jam night.
Jam Night 08022007 The usual Thursday night "band" line-up, drummer included. So we decided to rock the house. Words for this jam were progress and something else I can't remember. Either way, some all time kick ass versions of a few (original) songs. And some definite progress on others. Hope you like it, we did.
Jam Night 07312007 Nearly a full house tonight. Several never before played (attempted) songs. Several old classics. We got a late start (some of us were late, some of us were even later) but managed to pull out a solid 45 minute jam session for your perusal. Remember, this is all experimentation. You wouldn't want it any other way. Jam on.
Jam Night 07262007 Tonight was the 12 string session. The drummer was missing in action so the boys traded off on drums and the awesome fender 12 string. Some great jams of songs old and new. Not sure if it had anything to do with the drummer not being there, but we really packed 'em in. Nearly two whole Beattles albums worth of jams specially selected, just for you. Don't forget to check out the Face Heads Jams page. I'll be adding some more material there within the next few days. And as usual, feel free to drop us a line and make a request, send us your comments, let us know how we can improve the sight or just say hi and let us know you're out there. Jam on.
Jam Night 07242007 Another great jam night. Never hurts to have a harmonica player. Especially for those low down dirt and gritty blues songs we love so much. Just wish they were more reliable (harmonica players that is). For that matter. Aren't we all (musicians that is). But we combed the archives to find just the right songs for your enjoyment. Let us know what you think. Jam on.
Jam Night 07192007 As usual, lots of great original jams. Several never before played/heard. Brad even had two new songs on one piece of paper. He's such a tree hugger, literally. Hope you enjoy this installment of the Thursday night line-up. Keep on jamming. Or get out and start if you don't already.
Jam Night 07172007 Guess who's back? Hope you've had a chance to checkout the Face Heads Jams. If not, do it now. Meanwhile, here's the newest installment of the Jam Night Jukebox. Several new songs we hammered out. Hope you like them. If not, check back soon. I'm sure we'll play them again in the weeks to come. Don't forget to drop a note to the DJ and let us know what you think about the site, the jams or anything else.
Jam Night 06262007 While waiting on the lead guitarist's arrival, the "rest of us" actually managed to put down three tunes. And once he did show up, we really knocked 'em out. Good thing too. The engineer/bass player will be on vacation for the next two weeks so you'll just have to take the opportunity to review all the great jams in the archive. See you in a couple weeks.
Jam Night 06212007 Special Jam Night tonight. We'll call this the "Pro Set". Guest appearance by the other Mr. Trumbo thumpin' it out on bass. Yes, you might even hear the keyboard in there (sorry). And the one that got away, didn't get away!!! Jam Night karma in action.
Jam Night 06192007 Full line-up tonight. Hardly room to do the windmill. Lots of great jams. God bless the inventor of the basic 1-4-5 blues. Enjoy and keep on jamming.
Jam Night 06142007 Just the power trio tonight. Tribute to the missing band, er, jam member kinda thing. Little Skynard thrown into the mix for Scotty. Oh yeah, and we conjure up a lot of good old memories with a sweat Jam Night rendition of Something's Written (EBGIII). Adam, come back, we can work it out.
Jam Night 06122007 Some good stuff here. Some great versions of old songs and some decent versions of new songs. Enjoy.
Jam Night 06072007 We all agreed that like the record breaking home run that Barry Bonds will hit some time this year, this jam session truly deserves an asterisk. Although our asterisk is a good one. Enjoy and Jam On!
Jam Night 06052007 We had a "practice" night last night, so we were already warmed up when we started tonight. Get your 12 pack and check out this album worth of Americana. Jam on!
Jam Night 05312007 A whole lot of energy tonight. Don't listen to this before going to bed. A couple technical difficulties (beer induced I'm sure) but no harm no foul. We hope you like high energy original rock, 'cause that's what we got right here.
Jam Night 05292007 Not your usual jam night. We warmed up with a couple Beatles duets (can you say Lennon and McCartney, I knew that you could). Then, due to the low turnout, we experimented with some multi-tracking on a new Stones cover. Then the reinforcements showed up just in time to jam a couple closers. All in all, a very eclectic evening.
Jam Night 05242007 Neglected to plug in the microphones for the first song and let me tell you, it was the best song we ever played (read: the one that got away). But we still came through with a lot of great originals with the basic "band" line-up. Jam on!
Jam Night 05222007 Well, we did it again. Another 30+ minutes of solid jamming. Since most of our jams usually last 3-4 hours, you know you're getting the cream of the crop. Nothing but the best for our dedicated listeners. Jam on.
Jam Night 05172007 We set a goal, hit it, set a new goal and hit that too. Musically speaking, nobody can call us slackers. Hope you like the new look. More to come.
Jam Night 05152007 Oh what a night. We didn't lose power during the (mini) t-storm and nobody got hurt despite our best efforts. So we managed to put down some good ol' tunes for your listening pleasure. Keep on jamming.
Jam Night 05102007 Just "the band" tonight. Covered a lot of ground. Some old, some new. Soon to be "project" material included. Keep on Jamming.
Jam Night 05082007 Another power house jam. Full house for sure. Start off strong and finish clean.
Jam Night 05032007 Just your basic power trio here. Breaking stereotypes was the theme of the evening. So I won't say it was just another great jam night. But we know better.
Jam Night 05012007 We'll call tonight the "album rock" session. Side A, side B and a bonus track. A little slow getting this on the site but I had to do it before heading off to jam again tonight. Jam on you crazy diamonds.
Jam Night 04262007 You say you want an album worth of great original jams? You got it.
Jam Night 04242007 Solid Tuesday night four piece line-up. Some all time best versions. Some impromptu ditties. Some idle chatter. Just another Jam Night.
Jam Night 04172007 Scotty and Carl showed up!!!! Late, but there none the less. We didn't waste any time on silly basketball talk so we've got a pretty good long jam for you this time. I'm sure we'll make up for it next time.
Jam Night 04122007 Good electric Jam Night. Can't beat the dueling electric guitars. Lots of original stuff here so let us know how you like it. Also looking for your votes on the best of Jam Night Jukebox. Visit The Jam Night Forum (currently offline) and let us know what you think.
NoMo10 Well, just the trio tonight. Almost like oldie but goodie EBG night. But they insisted I sing one to close. Lots of excitement over Billy-Clyde. Make sure you visit The Jam Night Forum (currently offline) to see what everybody (Shawn) is thinking.
NoMo9 After the candlelight jam we had Tuesday (power outage), we came back with definite powered jam. Lots of speculation on the new UK head coach as well. So just a side A night. BTW, next morning we found out it is going to be Billy Gillespie. I hadn't heard of him before either.
NoMo8 Once again we gave the vocal effects a good workout. Lots of originals from those Garland Buckeye boys. You might just see this set live somewhere, someday.
NoMo7 These guys must have heard we are looking for the best of Jam Night Jukebox. Might be a couple right here. Let us know what YOU think by posting in the forum (currently offline).
NoMo6 Nearly a packed house tonight. Too many beers before we actually played anything. So I lost the first song which was a new one. Just going to have to try it again on Thursday. Don't forget to checkout the forum (currently offline).
NoMo5 With the start of the NCAA tournament and the grand opening of the Jam Night Forum, we had lots to talk about. We did manage to get some good stuff on tape though. And I'm trying to get this "published" before going to bed. So that's all I'm going to say about that.
NoMo4 Third song is a bit louder than the rest. Don't bother turning it down. Thanks to the time change, we jammed a bit longer than usual. All the better for you. Sort of a jazzy line-up; guitar, harmonica and bass. Enjoy.
NoMo3 Celebrating the Cats win, we did more talking than jamming. But eventually we rocked none the less. Enjoy. Go Cats!!!
NoMo2 First time we've had the Tuesday night crew on tape in a long time. Special bonus guest Carl G. on the harp(s).
NoMo1 I'm calling these sessions the NoMo sessions since we are using the laptop but No Mo(tu). Still not bad for a bunch of guys in a garden kitchen.
MiniDisk2 The usual suspects try their hand at a bunch of new songs. Just remember you (me included) heard them here first. See if you can spot the new insurance company jingle.
Return of the Jukebox Brad, Adam and Jeff play a tasty selection of songs soon to be released on various different projects.
Retiles Desire The Jam Night Jukebox has hit a small rough spot to start the year. But we're on our way back with this little "diamond" in the rough. Enjoy one of Brad's classics done up for a new era.
JamNight010207 First jam night of the year. New beginnings, new opportunities and even some new music.
JamNight122806 Last Jam of the year. Hope you've all enjoyed Jam Night Jukebox as much as we have. There will be a lot more Jamming in the year to come. Happy New Year.
JamNight122606 The day after Christmas. What can you say except "only 364 days left". That's at least 50-100 more Jam Sessions!!!
Session122106 Full complement of jammers tonight. The amazing "heavy-G" on bass so I got to tickle the ivory. Keep your eyes open for the all original christmas CD next year about this time. And be sure to listen for the subliminal messages.
JamNight121906 "Get in, get out" was the theme of the evening. If you don't like one of the songs, just wait a minute (or two - tops).
JamNight121206 Quite a few never-before-recorded songs. Some were never-played-before songs as well. Bonus "holiday" song to cap off the evening. ENJOY!!!
AlsbergSongRemix So we took the Alsberg song from the party and "enhanced" it a bit. Jeff, let us know what you think.
DeFlame New, soon to be a chart-topper, from Brad. Get it while it's hot.
JamNight120506 Back to full strength this week with the return of the drummer. Thank you jevus.
AlsbergParty Big fire, good friends, good tunes and plenty of bourbon. What more could you ask for.
Session113006 A.T. returns to Thursday night with a soon to be classic original Christmas (or if you prefer, "Holiday") song. I'm sure we will be playing this at the party Saturday night.
JamNight112806 Just Free Dirt tonight. After some frustrating technical difficulties, we didn't do too bad (IMHO).
JamNight112106 Another "string section" jam. Some new, some old favorites. Happy Thanksgiving.
Session111606 Free Dirt does a couple Velvet Underground gems and one of Brad's tentatively named "Hazy and Due"
JamNight111406 Shawn was MIA last night. So it was just the "string" section.
FreeDirt The debut of Free Dirt!!! We just couldn't "come out" before now for fear of ending up in a secret CIA interrogation facility in an unnamed country for unnamed violation of patriotism (the times they are a changing).
DidWithIt-Final Added harp as a final touch. We think this one is done. You are welcome to make suggestions though.
BradJeff OK, I think we got it this time, including backup vocals and sultry drums.
JamNight110706 Special election night jam session saw the return of Adam to da hizzy.
JamNightHalloween We did our best to scare off the demons. Hope we don't scare you.
WeDecided-LoadedDream-remix A little polishing (and a lot of new tracks) for Brad's two songs from the RayBradJeff session
SomethingsWritten Oldie but goodie of Brad's done up by Brad and Jeff and the drum machine.
